This is a 19th-century mourning locket from Providence, Rhode Island.

A deeply engraved flourishing component with an infinity-shape. This was originally a perfume bottle. From Foster & Bailey (1950s Providence, RI).

In French heraldry, the crane represented vigilance. Myths told that cranes were hunted along the banks of the Nile and some cranes would stand as chosen guards holding stones in their claws. Should the bird fall asleep, the stone would fall from their claw and wake them. The image may be called "Crane in its Vigilance" or simply "Vigilant."
