Impression Die Crane in its Vigilance
In French heraldry, the crane represented vigilance. Myths told that cranes were hunted along the banks of the Nile and some cranes would stand as chosen guards holding stones in their claws. Should the bird fall asleep, the stone would fall from their claw and wake them. The image may be called "Crane in its Vigilance" or simply "Vigilant." Many families in France had the image of a crane on their coat of arms. This die seems to be a medal. Design: 1 3/4" x 1 9/16" From Foster & Bailey
