This winged skull design includes a torch and spear in place of crossbones. The winged skull is a symbol of "memento mori" or or the act of remembering death. In colonial America, a stylized winged skull and crossbones was a popular relief carving for gravestones. In modern times, a winged skull has been used as a symbol for motorcycle gangs several times. This fairy impression die depicts a fairy and a banner that reads "No-Tsu-Oh" -- Houston, spelled backwards. From 1904, it was used as a commemorative medal for the No-Tsu-Oh festival in Houston. Design: 1-1/2" x 1-11/16"

Waite Thresher

This design replicates the bust of Alexander Stirling Calder's "Star Maiden," which he sculpted in February of 1915 for the Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco, California. The Star Maiden was modeled by Audrey Munson, who is considered to be America's first supermodel.
